The reconstruction of the Oshodi-Ikeja International Airport Road will begin next month, Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode said yesterday.
At his third Quarterly Town Hall Meeting at Badore, the governor said the road would be 10 lanes to meet the mega city status of the state.
Besides, he explained why the state was constructing 181 council roads.
The construction of the roads will begin simultaneously with the airports.
The council roads, he said, were delayed because of the fluctuation in exchange rate, noting that when the projects were advertised in January, the exchange rate was N490 to a dollar.
The exchange rate, he said, was now around N350 to a dollar, adding that the contract would be re-advertised in two or three weeks.
“By the next two to three weeks, I will reopen the advert to get a new cost and all things being equal, the job would start on the roads by end of September,” he said.
Ambode said the Public Works Corporation would fix all potholes during the break in rains.
On the Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI) billed to begin next month, Ambode asked for the people’s understanding for the plan which he described as an holistic and comprehensive waste management policy now in its gestation period.
Once operational, waste would be collected in line with international best practices, while all parts of the state would be kept clean always, the governor said.
He urged residents to stop dumping waste in drainages and canals, promising that the government would provide adequate bins to discourage indiscriminate dumping.
Ambode said the 57 councils have been mandated to ensure 24/7 cleaning of the environment, adding that government officials would be going round to evacuate waste.
The governor said new modern bus terminals would be built in Marina, Ajah, Ojota, Agege, Iju Ishaga and Iyana Ipaja, beginning from this quarter. A Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) will be constructed to connect Badore Jetty to Ajah as part of the rated transport system.
