14 die in Kano road accident

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) yesterday confirmed that 14 passengers have died in a road accident in Kano State.

The accident occurred late Sunday evening at Rege village some 45km from Kano metropolis.

FRSC Sector Commander Zubairu Mato said 13 persons were burnt to death as a Toyota Hummer bus and a Hyundai SUV collided head-on.

“Road Safety officials arrived at the scene of the accident that occurred at Rege Village by Antukuwani, on Kano-Gaya Road at 7.45pm.

“The bus with registration number, GML 102 TA belonging to Kano Line, was coming from Gombe State when it collided with the SUV at about 7.30pm on Sunday.

“Thirteen passengers were burnt to death on the spot with six others injured in the accident.”

One of the passengers, a woman, died on Monday morning at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital intensive care unit, it was learnt.

The FRSC blamed the crash on “speeding and dangerous overtaking.”
