•147 appointed in acting capacity
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 1,670 senior police officers to their next ranks.
The Commission also approved the appointment of 147 officers in acting capacity to different ranks.
A statement in Abuja yesterday by the Head of Press and Public Relations of the Commission, Ikechukwu Ani, said: “A Commissioner of Police was elevated to the rank of AIG, 10 Assistant Commissioner’s to Deputy Commissioners, five Chief Superintendent of Police (CSPs) to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and six Superintendent of Police (SP) to CSPs.
“Others are four Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to SP, and 1,540 Inspectors to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASPs.)
“The acting appointments are three DCP, five ACP, four CSPs, three SPs, five DSPs and 127 ASPs.
Chairman of the Commission Mike Okiro congratulated the officers and urged them to reciprocate the Commission’s good gesture by rededicating themselves to the service of the nation.
He also promised that the Commission will continue to ensure that deserving officers are duly promoted.
The Commission noted that the promotion, which is with immediate effect, has been conveyed to the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase.
