Eight-time champions, International School, Lagos (ISL); host Doregos Private Academy and 28 other schools in Lagos and Ogun states will jostle for honour at the 18th Doregos Inter-School Basketball Championship.
Head of School of Doregos Private Academy Adebisi Adegbulugbe said the tournament would kick off on November 5 across four zones in Lagos and Ogun states while pledging the commitment of the financier Mrs Clementina Abeke Doregos to the tournament which has continued to churn out talents for the country.
“The 18th edition will be better than what we had in the past as the passion is to see young ones off the street and impact positively on them,” he said.
The organisers, however, charged the participating teams to play by the rules, while warning teams to desist from the use of mercenaries as such would attract disqualification and subsequent ban for any erring school.
For Ijeoma Ernest of ISL, the organisers should be lauded for their consistency in staging the tournament amidst the economic hardship across the country, while vowing to reclaim the title they surrendered in 2021.
In his remarks, Adedayo Olusanya of Command Secondary School described the championship as a platform for the players to showcase their talents while urging other schools to take a cue from the organisers.
“It is clear that sports is dead in most schools but with what Doregos has been doing, I think other schools should emulate them by taking up other sports to be able to unearth talents from schools across the country, Olusanya said.
The championship will dunk off on November 5 across four zones – Ipaja, Ejigbo, Akoka, and Sagamu.
