Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator, Presidential Amnesty Programme Brig.-Gen. Paul Boroh has expressed confidence and optimism in the leadership ability of the youths in the Niger Delta.
The Special Adviser spoke during the 50th Convocation ceremony of the University of Cape Coast, Ghana where 19 beneficiaries of the Amnesty Programme including ex-agitators and youths from crisis impacted communities of the region graduated along side 6,886 students from different countries of the world in various courses and honours.
Brig-Gen. Boroh, who was represented at the ceremony by the Chief of Staff to the Amnesty Office, Col. Dedis Abel, described Education as a veritable platform , the pivot of civilisation and catalyst for the socio-economic growth and development of the Niger Delta. He emphasized that quality education provides a base for meaningful development of any society aspiring to grow. ”We at the Amnesty Office are determined and desirious of ensuring that delegates of the programne excell in their various fields of study as this will give the federal government the confidence to sustain the programme, which I must say is very expensive. The huge sums of money expended on the implementation of the programme is paying off with successes recorded in the education component of the Amnesty Programme both home and abroad”.
