20-year-old bags six months imprisonment for theft

A Mararaba Senior Magistrates’ Court in Nasarawa on Tuesday sentenced one Sabiu Musa to six months imprisonment for stealing a power generator.

Senior Magistrate Agwadu Jatau sentenced 20-year-old Musa following his guilty plea.

The senior magistrate, however, gave the convict an option of N6,000 fine, and warned him to desist from committing crime.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Kange Daniel, had told the court that Musa stole the generator from Mrs. Mary Ifeanyi, a resident of Calvary Road, Mararaba.

Daniel said that the theft occurred on March 12 at midnight.

He submitted that Musa was apprehended while trying to abscond with the stolen item.

“Luck ran out on Musa when he was caught with a Tiger generator by security guards known as vigilante group led by one Mujalideen.

“Musa made a vital confession by revealing that he had stolen more than five generators in the same area,” Daniel said.

He noted that stealing contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code.
