Immediate past Resident Electoral Commissioner in Enugu State, Dr. Emeka Ononamadu, has urged political parties in the country to cooperate with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct free, fair and credible elections in 2023.

Ononamadu made the call when various political parties in the state under the auspices of Inter Party Advisory Council(IPAC) organised a send forth ceremony in his honour at the IPAC Secretariat in Enugu.

The former REC also urged the political parties to follow religiously the electoral process, as that would help protect the integrity of the election.

“I’m happy with the maturity the politicians and political parties in Enugu State exhibited throughout my stay as REC.

“I’m happy to also say that elections in Enugu State in my days were always peaceful and hitch free. I urge you to continue to uphold that positive aspect.

“I will also like to use this opportunity to urge you to follow religiously the electoral process and never to hold INEC in derision but rather to cooperate with INEC to conduct credible polls. This is very important if we all agree that we want INEC to conduct credible elections,” Ononamadu said.

Enugu State chairman of the Inter Party Advisory Council(IPAC), Hon. Edwin Alor, called on various candidates of the political parties for the 2023 election and their supporters  to avoid making speeches capable of heating the polity in the state.
