ALL Progressives Congress (APC) in Northwest has said it will settle out of court the governorship crisis of the party in Kaduna State.
One of the aspirants of APC, Alhaji Sani Sha’aban approached the Federal High Court to challenge the primary, alleging there was a violation of the Electoral Act.
The court is likely to rule on the matter today.
Addressing a news conference, Zonal Secretary, Bello Muhammad said the, “party is working hard to see that the court case against the state governorship candidate, Mallam Uba Sani is settled out of court”.
Also speaking, Director of Legal Services, Sanusi Samaila, who represented the party’s National Legal Adviser, said the party would guide against abuse of the Electoral Act.
But Muhammad added that of the 36 cases against the party at the lw court arising from pre-election matters, 25 had been won in favour of the party in the zone.
“ Some of these cases involved members of our party against another member, while others are inter-party issues. But, just like I said earlier, 25 cases have been won with the combinations of reconciliation mechanism and court verdicts.
“ We are still not relenting to ensuring that other pending cases are settled out of court, using the reconciliation mechanism. As a progressive party, we dont want to see any of our member pursuing any court case against one another.
“Today, due to the party’s leadership efforts, on the average, we have 10 to 11 cases pending at the court, and this is a plus to the party in view of the number of cases that the party had earlier.
“As a party, our responsibilty is to unite our members, and that is exactly what we are doing to ensure that our members are united.” the Zonal Secretary explained.
He however, assured Nigerians of APC’s commitment to strictly adhere to the code of conduct as stipulated in the Electoral Act, and not to involve itself in any form of character assasination during campaigns.
This is just as the leadership of the party in the zone disclosed that its campaigns will be issue based, and not attacking other political parties or thier candidates while campaigning.
