YOUTHS in the country have been urged to actively participate in the 2023 general elections.

Senior Pastor, The Summit Bible Church, Dr. Andrew Osakwe, gave the charge at a meeting of This Generation Accelerator Fellows in Abuja.

This Generation Civic Accelerator Programme is a project of Buildman Leadership Foundation, an arm of The Summit Bible Church, Abuja.

It is a convergence of progressive minds, people who genuinely desire to see Nigeria make its much-needed progress.

The programme is designed to provide technical capacity and mentorship to the youth, to implement non-partisan civic projects that will contribute positively to the 2023 general elections.

Osakwe noted that through political engagement, youths in the country can make a difference.

He said: “I have always said that the youth are not tomorrow’s leaders as we always say, but the youth are actually the leaders of today. I am happy with what’s going on and there’s been an activation of the youth movement.

“Two things I want to talk about quickly, one is participation. We have to participate in the political process of our nation. If you don’t do something about the political direction, your prayers end up just causing more frustration.

“There must be political engagement, you must participate and then number two is the nature of our participation.”

He advised the youths to also take advantage of skill acquisitions to be self-reliant and make positive change in the society.

Coordinator of the programme, Kingsley Bangwell said the project is aimed at empowering youths and building their capacity for a better nation.

He said 60 fellows emerged out of the hundreds that had undergone training on how to effectively engage, initiate, and execute projects.

Bangwell said: “All the projects by the fellows are expected to be implemented between 1st October 2022 and 31st March, 2023.”
