A political affairs analyst, Adekunle Owuye, has emphasized that Oyo State would experience better governance with Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi in the saddle, describing him as a tested and trusted public administrator with a proven track record.
Owuye noted that Akanbi brings in legislative, executive, and professional experience to the table, an uncommon blend that sets him apart in today’s political landscape.
”During his impactful time as Senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Akanbi earned accolades for his performance in the 8th National Assembly. He was also a member of the Federal House of Representatives in 1992. He was known for his active legislative presence, constituency-focused projects, and strong advocacy for policies that uplift the grassroots. His voice was not only loud but effective on the Senate floor.

“He doesn’t have only legislative experience; he also has executive experience. As a Special Adviser on Industry and Economic Matters under Governor Lam Adesina, he contributed to the economic direction of Oyo State at a critical time after the military regime.”
”Sen. Akanbi was also the Chairman of the Poverty Eradication Program (LAMARP) and Chairman of the Special Project Committee, Executive Vice Chairman of the Oyo State Planning Commission, positions that showcased his ability to drive developmental initiatives with strategic insight.
Notably, during that administration, only three Special Advisers were appointed, highlighting the trust and responsibility placed on him.
”Today, through the Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi Foundation (RAAF), his legacy of service continues. From free healthcare programs, family relief support, to youth empowerment, scholarship programmes, and community development programs. RAAF has become a pillar of social support across Oyo State.
