The Jigawa Consumer Protection Committee (CPC) said it has seized 50 litres of adulterated palm oil  and  arrested four traders for allegedly supplying the product  in Hadejia Local Government of the state.

The CPC chairman in the state, Alhaji Farouk Abdallah, confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday.

Abdallah said  that the suspects were apprehended on Saturday in Hadejia market, with two 25-litre jerry cans containing adulterated palm oil.

He alleged that the suspects adulterated the commodity using dye colourant called, ‘Jawa` in Hausa.

The chairman added that  the suspects had  confessed to committing the offence.

Abdallah, who warned traders against engaging in unwholesome practices to defraud consumers, said, “Anyone caught would be prosecuted.”

He added that  the committee would continue to monitor markets in order to protect consumers from adulterated foods, drugs and medication, as well as from shylock traders.
