Over 60,000 have benefited from Lagos State skill acquisition and intervention through Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Mrs. Cecilia Dada spoke at the graduation of 2021 trainees.
About 3,986 beneficiaries graduated from 20 centres.
Mrs. Dada said the government would ensure people, especially women, were self-reliant and contribute to Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
She said: “Because our programmes are tuition-free, it hasn’t been too difficult to get students, the only problem is many are not aware there are such schools. Right now, we have 20 centres spread around the five division of Lagos State.
“We urge people to come. There is a lot of empowerment by this ministry. In fact, over 60,000 have benefited…
A graduate, Omoseebi Bukola, who learnt catering, thanked the government, saying she was a teacher. “The training was awesome, I learnt a lot.”
Okejoba Friday, from Badagry council, is a Psychology graduate from University of Ibadan and learnt fashion.
“I am a graduate of Psychology… but today I am a graduate of Lagos State Skills Acquisiton Centres, where I learnt fashion designing for a year. The training exposed me and now I have my shop… I thank the government for this opportunity…’’
Oludare Rachael, who learnt photography, said she would get jobs and be deliver well to the people.
“I want to appreciate the government for this privilege given to people like me who have no one to train them. I am very grateful.”
