Non-profit entrepreneurship development group, Upgrade Seminars has groomed 78 youths in communication skills applicable in business.
The convener, Mr Nath McAbraham-Inajoh exposed them to the intricacies of speaking skills, writing and non-verbal communication including presentation, reporting, observatory, analytical and professional etiquette.
He defined business communication as a goal oriented process of sharing information by all the stakeholders in an enterprise, noting that the direction could be upward, downward or outward.
An effective business communicator, he said, must take cognizance of social ambiguity in his context of operation.
The General Manager, Training and HRD Department at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said the initiative was a decision to give back to the society in the form of a Corporate Social Responsibility backed by Divine Eagle Support Ministry.
Having practiced in the consultancy field for two decades, Inajor found the need to bridge the skills gap in the areas of entrepreneurship, corporate leadership and management.
“I have interacted with a lot of young people and I realize there is a knowledge gap and if you wanted them to pay for this training, many of them may not be able to. So I began to do it every month absolutely free. It makes them more employable, better at work, more efficient and more confident in their assignment at work. It makes them confident because some of the things we talk about is how they package themselves.
