Abibat Yusuf of Always Boxing club on Saturday emerged winner of this month’s best boxer of the day award based on his impressive performance at the 82nd edition of the Monthly Saturday Boxing Show at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Hall, Rowe-Park, Yaba.
Yusuf was voted the best boxer by the Referees and Judges of Lagos State Amateur Boxing Association, out of the 18 pugilists that fought in nine bouts fought.
The premier amateur boxing competition organized by the Lagos State Boxing Hall of Fame in partnership with the Lagos State Amateur Boxing Association, saw brawny Yusuf pummel Azezat Abiodun from Golden Boxing Club to win the 60kg division bout by a 3-0 unanimous decision.
Speaking to NationSport on her feat, Mustapha, thanked the chairman of Lagos State Boxing Hall Of Fame, Olawale Edun for his commitment to the growth of boxing and urged other female boxers not to relent in their efforts to record success in their chosen career.
She also commended the Lagos Amateur Boxing Association for their commitment to the growth of boxing by engaging boxers in regular competitions.
In other bouts decided, the female 56kg Category bouts saw Ogunsemilore Cynthia from Always Boxing Club beat Adesewa Oshoba from Eba-Maffy Boxing Club by a split decision while Mufutau Elemoro from Golden Boxing Club caused an upset when he beat America Standard Boxing Club’s more experienced Hammed Ayantunji also by a split decision in the 69kg category.
The75kg bout saw Adeniyi Bolajoko from Knowledge-is-Power Boxing Club knock out Adewale Ishola from Confidence Boxing Club in the first round as Chidube Okafor of Smart Boxing Club beat Osun Ibrahim of Hard-Punch Boxing Club with a unanimous decision.
