Ilorin, Kwara State, based Islamic University, Al-Hikmah University, is ready to interface with other universities in the world to broaden the knowledge of Islam and Arabic language, Vice Chancellor of the university Prof Taofeek Ibrahim has said.
Prof Ibrahim said this in Ilorin at the closing of a four-day refresher workshop for judges, lecturers and teachers of Arabic and Islamic studies.
According to him, the institution is ready to accept similar ventures from foreign universities in future.
The workshop was organised by Ummul Qura University, Makkah, Saudi Arabia, in collaboration with Al-Hikmah University.
He listed the objectives of the refresher course to include explaining the peculiarities and relevance of Shari’ah to modern world, to strengthen the intellectual capacity of the participants to defending Islam and to equip them on how to refute misconceptions surrounding the teaching of Islam.
“It is worthy of note that the aforementioned objectives coupled with the calibre of participants the workshop has targeted, leave us with no alternative than to accept the offer of collaborating to organise the workshop.
“Thus, we are very proud as a fore-most Muslim University in the country to host the programme,” he added.
He urged the participants to put into practice all that they have learnt in the workshop, adding that “I also urge the delegates from Ummul Qura University to take this collaboration as a starting point.
“More collaborations that will further uplift both Al-Hikmah University and Ummul Qura University through the award of scholarships, grants, students and staff exchange and other inter-university affiliation and cooperation will be entertained,” he stressed.
In a remark, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Dr Ali Ahmad, said that the workshop has revealed that Islam has nothing to do about the vices such as money laundering and terrorism in the society.
He said that it behoves them to practicalise what they have learnt so that it would show good things about Islam.
