Cleric offers solutions to global crises

The Grand Mufti, Conference of Islamic Organisations (CIO), Sheikh Dhikrullahi Shafi’i has urged the international community and world leaders to take a look at some of the principles of Islam in the quest to restore sustainable global peace.

He said it was imperative for the international community to uphold human rights and imbibe the existing Universal Declarations and also address the violations of laws by the world super powers particularly during war.

He said the world powers and their leaders have prominent roles to play in tackling the various crises happening in different parts of the world.

The revered monarch enjoined clerics to accommodate global issues in their sermons on Fridays.

The cleric, who spoke during a daily Ramadan lecture, lamented that the world is still deserted of peace, despite the numerous summits, conferences being organised and the funds awarded by the international organisations to address peace.

He said the most appalling part of the issue was that the crux of global crises is rooted in the Muslim nations.

He said: “The kind of crises we are witnessing all the world today is unprecedented. The world has never been this troubled. We never experienced this spate growing up back in the days. It saddens the heart how different nations are utterly ravaged by crises that leaves thousands of people dead daily.

“It is sad that the Muslim nations namely Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Palestine, Sudan, and Afghanistan are the most unsettled with killings and bombings. We all have roles to play in all these crises, because they portend great problem for our wellbeing,” he said.

He advised international communities draw lessons from spate of natural disasters – fire, earthquakes, building collapse, among others.
