Fayemi hailed for uninterrupted payment of pension

•Residents score governor high on roads’ projects

THE Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Ekiti State Council, has hailed Governor Kayode Fayemi for the uninterrupted payment of pension to retirees.

The pensioners explained that Fayemi places high premium on the payment of salaries and allowances of civil servants and pensioners since his assumption in office.

The union said his efforts in prioritising the welfare of the pensioners have tremendously helped to improve the state’s economy and wellbeing of the citizens.

Briefing reporters in Ado-Ekiti, the union’s chairman, Elder Ayo Kumapayi, berated the alleged proposal by Ekiti lawmakers to place themselves on life pension, saying there is no constitutional basis for such obnoxious policy.

Kumapayi explained that the legislators are only entitled to severance allowances approved by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission at the end of their tenures.

He called on Governor Fayemi to use his political will in influencing the State Local Government Administration to replicate the monthly payment of gratuities to local government pensioners.

He, however, urged the Fayemi to expedite strategies on how to liquidate outstanding gratuities without much delay.

Also yesterday, residents of Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, have hailed Fayemi for embarking on massive rehabilitation of dilapidated township roads.

The roads are being repaired under the code name, “Operation Zero Potholes in Ekiti State”, with officials of Ministry of Works and Infrastructure on duty.

Potholes that dotted virtually all major federal highways that enter Ado Ekiti and other inner roads in the neighbourhoods had been filled.

Apart from the township roads, workmen have also rehabilitated bad portions on the Ado-Ikere Highway, which connects the two largest towns and also serve as the gateway from Southeast and Southsouth geopolitical zones.

Excited residents, who spoke with The Nation yesterday, hailed Fayemi for moving men and equipment to the roads to rehabilitate them to ease transportation and business.
