10 years after, council accredits EKSU Medical College

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has granted the Ekiti State University (EKSU) College of Medicine full accreditation.

The nod was given after a 14-man team led by the MDCN Registrar, Dr. T. A. B. Sanusi, inspected facilities at the institution.

The accreditation comes 10 years after the college came into existence.

With this development, students of the college can participate in the final Professional MBBS Examination scheduled for December.

A statement signed by EKSU’s Head, Directorate of information and Corporate Affairs, Mr. Bode Olofinmuagun, noted that the MDCN approved the college because it met the set criteria considerably.

Olofinmuagun said the council in its third plenary meeting held June 13, considered the report of the accreditation team.

“The long-awaited accreditation of the MBBS programme of the College of Medicine,  Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti has finally come.  The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has granted it full accreditation for five years,” he said.

Acting Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Olubunmi Ajayi, thanked the Visitor to the University, Governor Kayode Fayemi, for providing logistics support to facilitate the accreditation.

Fayemi had earlier in the year presented a coaster bus to the college and released funds for the upgrade of some facilities needed to get the final accreditation.
