Firm, Google train 120 female entrepreneurs on digital skills

Committee of Friends for Humanity (COFFHA) in collaboration with Google have boost the skills set of over 120 female entrepreneurs on digital skills in order to boost their businesses.

Justifying the need for the training, especially its benefits, the Head Brand & Reputation, Google Africa, MojolaOluwa Aderemi Makinde, who spoke in Lagos, pointed out that it brings them closer to their customers worldwide.

“We are training 10 million Africans on digital skills, our goal is to ensure that our customers use the internet right and we’ve been doing it since 2016 for job seekers business owners, those in education sector, among others. It is our annual community service project and we also partner with NGOs,” she said.

While teaching participants on how best to make harness opportunities online, Makinde warned them not to be online because others are there but rather define what is good for them then focus on the platform that works for them.

Also speaking on the essence of the training, the President of COFFHA, Mrs. Carol Ufere, said, “In our engagement with SMEs, we noticed the need to inculcate some digital skills into the entrepreneurs, which would help them operate their businesses better and grow them.”

Pressed further, she said, “The initiative, which empowers SMEs with world-class opportunities to develop and learn about the latest advances in the online space, is testament to their commitment to Nigeria and entrepreneurial development in the country, hence their partnership with Google.

“Google is a great platform and there is immense opportunity for entrepreneurs to leverage and utilise the innovative features of such tools. We’ve been empowering widows over the years. We don’t want to limit ourselves to this alone, hence COFFHA decided to empower women with Small Scale business as well,” she stressed.

About 120 entrepreneurs were trained on how to grow their businesses using various digital tools.

Echoing similar sentiments, the Vice President of COFFHA and former chairperson of the Nigerian Institute for Public Relations (NIPR), Lagos Chapter, Mrs. Nkechi Ali-Balogun enjoined women to give value to themselves.

“Learn to validate yourself, be proud of who you are, and your business. Anything that is bringing in legitimate money, appreciate and validate it, you must strategize to win,” she warned.

On her part, the CEO, OrgLearning Consult, Maria Onyia, while charging participants on the need for them to develop a bold mindset tasked them to always have a plan ‘B’ for their business.
