The Lagos chapter of the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has disassociated itself from the purported suspension of the Secretary-General of the organisation Dr. Kunle Olajide.

According to a statement signed by the Chairman of the chapter which was made available to our correspondent, Mr. Francis Akinnikawe, the purported suspension of the National scribe is unconstitutional, null and void.

Mr. Akinnikawe further explained that a recent meeting of the Lagos chapter resolved to discountenance the decision of the organisation’s acting President, Col. Ade Agbaje (rtd) to suspend the Secretary-General because it did not follow due process.

The statement explained that only the National Executive Committee of YCE has powers to sanction an erring national officer.

“The meeting where Dr. Olajide was suspended was presided over by the Acting President and the State Executive was not represented,” the statement said.

It revealed that since the death of the former President, Chief Idowu Sofola last year, the YCE is yet to have a substantive President.

The Secretary-General, Dr. Olajide was suspended following allegations of “gross misconduct and insubordination.”
