Acting Chief Judge of Lagos State Justice Kazeem Alogba has approved the deployment of eight judges as vacation judges during the long vacation for judges of the High Court.
The vacation has been fixed for between Monday, July 22 and Tuesday, September 10, 2019 for judges.
A statement by the court’s Registrar, Mrs. Taiwo Olatokun, stated that the Chief Judge approved the long vacation in accordance with the powers conferred on her pursuant to Order 49, Rule 4 (D) of the High Court of Lagos State Civil Procedure) Rule 2019.
The statement said the 2019/2020 session will begin on Wednesday, September 11.

According to the statement, Justice Ganiyu Safari will take charge of the court in Ikeja division from July 22 to August 2; Justice Beatrice Oke-Lawal will be in-charge from August 5 to August 16; Justice Hakeem Oshodi from August 19 to August 30 and Justice Abiola Soladoye will take charge from September 2 to September 10, 2019.
Justices Justices Lateefa Okunnu, Olukayode Ogunjobi, Olajumoke Emeya and Kudirat Jose will take charge in Lagos division of the Lagos High Court for same corresponding period.
It said: “Notwithstanding the long vacation, the criminal division of the high court of Lagos State may sit through the period of the vacation. Where a judge of the criminal division is on vacation, a vacation judge may be assigned to deal with all urgent pending criminal cases in court.
“Notwithstanding the long vacation, any cause or matter may be heard by a judge during the period of the vacation (except on Sunday or public holiday) where such cause or matter is urgent or a judge, at the request of all the parties concerned agreed to hear it.
“Please note that vacation ends Tuesday, September 10, 2019 while 2019/2020 legal session will start Wednesday, September 11, 2019.’’
The statement added that the new legal year services will be held in the mosque and church on Monday, September 23.
