Umahi disowns social accounts

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State on Monday raised the alarm over the activities of criminal elements that use his name and pictures to create social media accounts to defraud unsuspecting members of the general public.

The governor, in a statement issued by his Special Assistant (SA) on Social Media, Emmanuel Igwe, said he does not operate any social media account or authorized anybody to do so on his behalf.

He further cautioned the members of the public to be wary of the tricks of impostors who pose as David Umahi on social media.

He warned that anybody doing any business with operators of such accounts is doing so at his/her own peril.

The Governor, however, warned the unscrupulous elements indulging in this crime to bear in mind that the cybercrime Act of 2015 is still in force.

He also directed the security agencies to immediately fish out and prosecute the perpetrators of this crime.
