Behind the nightmares Nigerians experience daily, author, Joseph Edoki, believes there is a dream, a proven success path for Nigerians to follow. And his secret – positive attitude – is what he champions in his novel, The African Dream.
The book, which was first published in 2005 and had subsequent editions, was presented to the public at the Central Language Laboratory, Department of English Language, Lagos State University, Ojo last week. The presentation was accompanied with a lecture entitled Creative Writing and Film Making for National Transformation: A Case Study of Joseph Edoki’s The African Dream”
The 312-page novel, which is written with every African in mind, captures contemporary Nigeria’s socio-economic and political realities.
Addressing an audience comprising of lecturers and students, Edoji said the novel is about the making of an exemplary leader in a typical African nation such as Nigeria, and how the ideals of good governance and responsible citizenship could be used to solve the problems of poverty, hunger and disease.
He highlighted the process of creative writing, its importance in transforming the society while enjoining the students to always follow role models that propagate the right values as a pointer to aspiration that would liberate the Nigerian society from the shackles of mediocre leadership.
The novel, which is adopted into a movie and features some Nollywood best actors is scheduled to be premiered soon.
