Wife of Lagos State governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has promised to partner with the International Charitable Initiative for Girl Child and Woman Development Foundation (ICI-GWODEF) to promote the rights of the girl child.
She spoke when ICI-GWODEF members, led by its President, Mrs Helen Ibeji, visited her at the Government House, Alausa, Ikeja.
She vowed to work with the group for the benefit of the girl child and women.
She said she would do all within her power to ensure that no girl or woman suffers gender discrimination.
The governor’s wife promised support to the NGO to enable it realise its objectives.
Mrs Ibeji said the visit was to notify Mrs Sanwo-Olu about International Day of the Girl Child coming up on October 11.
Ibeji said that as part of the activities marking the day in Lagos, the group will present an excellence award to Mrs Sanwo-Olu.
She said it is in recognition of what she has been doing within the short time her husband has been in office.
Ibeji said the award was also to encourage the governor’s wife to do more for the people of the state, particularly the girl child and for the women in her capacity.
“She will be the Ambassador for the Girl Child, starting from the Jerusalem which is now Lagos, to all states of Nigeria,” she said.
