NNS gets 250 boats, others to combat maritime crimes

THE Nigerian Navy Service (NNS) says it has acquired a total of 250 boats and other offshore patrol vessels to facilitate the fight against sea pirates among other illegal maritime activities in the Niger Delta region.

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Gabriel Olonisakin, revealed this yesterday at the Passing out Parade and Commissioning Ceremony of 112 Cadet Officers at the Nigerian Naval College, Onne, Rivers State.

Olonisakin, who was the Review Officer in the event, also said the federal government was worried over the rise in criminal activities in the nation’s maritime domain, stating that the military vessels would assists the navy in their effort.

He commended the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, for his efforts in repositioning the Service in the areas of training and facilities, noting that the Navy has continued to lead in internal security the maintenance of internal security in the country, stressing that NNS is fully involved in assisting sister agencies in ensuring security.
