Baby abandoned in Imo

AN eight-month-old baby boy was on Sunday found unattended in an uncompleted building in Orogwe community near Owerri, the Imo State capital.

A passerby Promise Nwaokorie reportedly heard the infant crying and rushed in only to find a malnourished baby boy.

Mr. Nwaokorie assisted by another man Daniel Opara and some residents took the baby to a nearby house where he was bathed and fed before being taken to nearby Ogbaku Divisional Police headquarters.

Local police in Ogbaku have been playing the role of mother and nurse for the infant, whose mother has not been found.

The boy would be taken to a motherless babies home on Monday, The Nation learnt.

The boy was left with a bag containing his clothes, a stainless basin and a small blue bucket inside the uncompleted building.

Opara said, “A neighbour found the boy when he heard him crying. He called me and some neighbours and we went to pick up the baby from an uncompleted building near the secondary school in Orogwe.

“From what we saw, the boy looked so malnourished. I think he was left there during the night. I think he was abandoned out of hunger because when he was taken to be fed, he ate like someone who hasn’t eaten for days; he started playing and crawling happily. We just thank God that nothing happened to him”.
