A group, Continuity for Good Governance (CGG), has called for consensus candidate amongst All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2020 governorship election in Ondo State.
At a stakeholders meeting in Ijapo, Akure, yesterday, the group argued that consensus is the best option for the party and its interest, with the situation on ground.
In a communiqué signed by the Director of Publicity and Media, Prince Kayode Ehinlanwo, the group said that “the party constitution gives room for three processes to pick a candidate of the party either through direct, indirect or consensus primary.
“It is stupidity to pretend that the problem in the party is one sided. But having done our empirical analysis and putting into consideration the variables available, it is our humble resolve that direct and indirect primary options cannot in anyway serve the interest of the party.
“It will rather deepen the crisis and disunity amongst party members of which we are working against toward the election.

“If our common purpose is to serve the interest of the majority of the people, what our party needs right now is to bring all opinions, ideas and concerns on board to take into account and arrive at a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) or proposal that will work for everyone.
The group, however, said it had put in place a strategic thinking to ensure this consensus objective.
According to the communiqué: “We have our strategic plans on ground. Everyone is going to be involved; we are going to engage our party leaders both at national and state levels, to get at least 1000 signatures per ward of party members across 203 wards in the state.
“We had written a position paper on this to the National Working Committee (NWC) through the national chairman, Adams Oshiomole.”
