Ondo State Government on Sunday alerted the public to the antics of certain individuals alleged to have offered to serve as “tools in the hands of the opposition” by perfecting plans to concoct and sustain lies against Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
The state government also said there was no truth in the rumour in the media (not The Nation) that the governor had been admitted in a herbal healing home, where he was being treated for an unknown ailment.
It, however, noted that the state government had enjoyed an appreciable measure of support from the media.
This relationship, the government pointed out, was not only cherished but very encouraging and more reassuring each day, especially as the government considered the media a veritable partner in the pursuit of development in the state.

A statement by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Ojo Oyewamide, however, noted that “in the well-rehearsed, yet ignoble dance of shame, orchestrators as well as willing tools in a section of the media, are set to spin outright falsehood concerning what in their imagination, constitutes the health status of Governor Akeredolu.
“Needless to recall that opposition elements have devoted the last three weeks to uncanny insinuations and self-adulating vituperations.
“The insensitive nature of the peddled rumours notwithstanding, government did not hesitate to clear the air with decency.
“Events in the aftermath, especially as they affect the activities of Mr. Governor, gave no credence to the inglorious crawl of those responsible for such untruth either.”
The statement alerted the public that these “conveyors of blackmail and lies” are at it again, stressing that they intended to churn out a fresh angle that Akeredolu in their imagination, was in a herbal home.
It added: “Among their mercenaries, who have offered to plant such stories, is the spokesman of a former governorship candidate, who has found his way back to the media.
“This untoward plot is coming less than 48 hours after Akeredolu, in the full glare of the media, presided over the signing of an MoU between the Ondo State Government and a German medical giant, Medicus International, to establish a world class Sunshine Medical City in Akure, the state capital. Not only did he preside over proceedings, he granted a post-event interview.
“It, therefore, becomes not just suspicious, but shamelessly preposterous that some persons would hide under the cover of balancing a ‘packaged’ story to disseminate outright lies. No doubt, these are marked acts aimed at distracting the Governor, but he will not be distracted.”
