Many members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekeremor Local Government, as PDP intensifies mop up campaigns in Bayelsa State.

Governor Seriake Dickson described the defections and the massive rally as confirmation of the general recognition of the developmental strides of the Restoration Government in the area.

The defections are coming barely 24 hours after the defection of some prominent members of the APC to the PDP.

A member of the APC Campaign Organisation Protocol Committee and the Committee on Policy and Programmer, Hon Lecky Tamama, a former chairman of Rural Development Area of Epie Atissa defected to the PDP on Tuesday night.

Also, the APC Chairman in Sagbama Local Government, Peter Bofumo, dumped his party for the PDP.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Fidelis Soriwei, quoted him as having thanked the mammoth crowd at Aghoro, Ekeremor and Aleibiri communities of Ekeremor Local Government for keeping faith in the PDP and the enduring support for the Restoration Government in the past eight years.

The governor said that the large turnout was a testament of the acceptance of the party and recognition of the developmental strides provided by the Restoration Government in the sectors of the economy.

He assured the people of the area of the completion of the ongoing projects in the area, including the Sagbama/ Ekeremor road, Agge Deep Seaport by the incoming administration of Senators Douye Diri and Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

Governor Dickson recalled that his administration on Tuesday presented a draft of N250million to the Governing Council for the provision of infrastructure in the state-owned polytechnic in Aleibiri.

He said the new intakes of the institution would be moved to the permanent site, while matriculation would take place before December.

Dickson assured the people of the development of Agge Deep Seaport by the Senator Douye Diri administration, which could only come to fruition by voting for PDP on November 16.

He said:  “The campaign is a celebration of victory. It is not a campaign because we know that we have already won.

“PDP is the number one party in Bayelsa.

We only come to celebrate our victory; we are not here to campaign because there is no other party here. All the appointees are PDP; all the elected officers are PDP.

“PDP has taken the road to Ekeremor, and if not for the flood, we would have come here by road. Only the PDP will take the road to Agge, and even complete the seaport.

“Diri will take over from your in-law. He is your brother. Everybody should be on the side of PDP. “

While presenting Diri as his successor to the people of the area, Governor Dickson said there was no basis for comparison between Diri and his APC counterpart, Chief David Lyon, just as light cannot be compared with darkness.

Senator Diri assured the people of the area of his preparedness to build on the already laid developmental foundation of the Restoration Government led by Dickson.

He said Hon. Agbedi as the director general of the Restoration Campaign Organisation led the party to victory twice and the feat would be repeated in November  16.
