Ansar-ud-Deen holds health walk

Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria (ADSN) Akoka branch has embarked on a fitness exercise to raise the health consciousness of people and ensure members keep fit.

Members of the association walked from Akoka through Bariga back to Akoka.

The event was also used to sensitise people on activities of the association.

In a chat with reporters, the branch’s Vice-Chairman, Alhaji Moshood Mustapha, said the walk was to enhance members’ physical fitness and the public.

“…health serves a lot of purpose, apart from facilitating the health and welfare of our members; we also use it to showcase ourselves to the …public and …showcase our projects as part of our social responsibility

“For instance, we are planning to build an ultra-modern hospital and a secondary school that will cater for …members and the …public,” he said.

He said: “If you want to be wealthy, then you have to be healthy. You need to know your health status and this is one of the things that the group has been doing over the years to ensure that Nigerians keep fit.”

ADSN’s Akoka branch’s Financial Secretary Alhaja Ganiyat Toluwaloju said healthy lifestyle was an antidote to healthy living.

“We encourage our members to keep fit and maintain spiritually and other ways,” she said.

She advised people to keep engaging in exercise to keep fit

“Most people don’t engage in exercises. Most people prefer to go on bike. They hardly walk and it is not good for their health.

“We have realised that if people don’t exercise, they will have a big problem in life, hence the reason we decided to make sure our members engage in a walk to keep fit. Going to the gym is quite expensive for a layman; we have decided that our members must shed fat annually. By engaging in this walk, they will burn fat and regain their health,” she said.

Alhaja Toluwaloju said the proposed hospital would reduce the number of people going long distances to attend to their health challenges.

“We realise that good health facilities are not within reach and quite expensive, so we prefer to have a hospital where the public will benefit more,” she said.
