Yobe governor Buni submits list of commissioners to Assembly

Duku JOEL, Damaturu

FIVE months after his inauguration, Yobe State Governor Hon. Mai Mala Buni has finally forwarded the names of commissioner nominees to the State House of Assembly.

The Nation checks revealed that the list was sent to the House yesterday evening through the Speaker of the House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Ahmed Lawan Mirwa.

A source at the House of Assembly, who did not want his name mentioned, informed that the list was forwarded to the Speaker at about 6 pm yesterday.

Although the list has not been made public, sources at the House informed that about three former commissioners from the Ibrahim Gaidam-led government made the list.

They include, Alhaji Mala Musti from Tarmuwa Local Government Area, Mohammed Lamin from Damaturu Local Government Area and Bukar Dauda from Giedam Local Government Area.

The emergence of the trio of Mala Musti, Bukar Dauda and Mohammed Lamin had been speculated due to their close link to former governor Ibrahim Gaidam.

One of the shocking names on the list is Mr. Abdullahi Bego from Jakusko Local Government Area, who is currently serving as the Director of Press to Governor Buni, having served two other governors, the late Senator Mamman Ali and the immediate past governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, in the same capacity since 2007.

Though there were speculations that former Governor Ibrahim Gaidam vetted the list before it was finally sent to the House of Assembly, there are however names on the list that are close political associates of Governor Buni.

Surprisingly, a former Senator, Alkali Jajare, and three former members of the House of Representative, Rt. Hon. Goni Bukar, Hon. Sidi Yakubu Karasuwa and Hon. Abdullahi Kukuwa, were nominated to serve as commissioners.

Hajiya (Dr.) Mairo Ahmsi, one time commissioner during former Governor Bukar Abba Ibrahim regime, who left the then APP to the PDP after the fallout of the 2007 gubernatorial elections in Yobe, is now on the list of the nominees, having worked assiduously for the APC  in the last general elections.

One of Governor Buni’s close associates, Dr. Garba Ilya, who retired from Lake Chad Basin a long time ago, also made the list of commissioners.

The twenty-man list is expected to be formally unveiled by the State House of Assembly at plenary on Tuesday next week.
