‘Ondo has spent N5b on pensions’

Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has committed about N5billion to the payment of pensions and gratuities owed retired public servants since 2011.

The Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Dare Aragbaiye, who spoke with reporters in his office in Akure, said retired officers now receive their pensions at the same time the serving officers receive their salary, adding that “this is a clear departure from the time when retired officers were owed pension arrears for months.”

He hailed Governor Akeredolu for prioritising payment of salary and allowances, being the first expenses to be deducted from the state monthly allocation.

Aragbaiye said that the promotion of deserving public servants were beind conducted earlier than what it used to be during the past administration, while letters of promotion and the financial benefits were promptly released to the beneficiaries.

The HoS said the state government has compiled the list of available vacancies across sectors of the public service with a view to employing fresh workers to re-energise the civil service for higher productivity and delivery of quality service to the people.
