Businessman arraigned for ‘N10.2m fraud’

A BUSINESSMAN, Victor Ogunjobi, 53, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly swindling a car dealer Peter Ibrahim of  N10.2 million.

Ogunjobi, who is resident at 4, Cole Street, Surulere, Lagos State, is being tried before Chief Magistrate, Miss A. O. Akinde for conspiracy, obtaining by false pretences and stealing.

He pleaded not guilty.

According to the Prosecutor, Sgt. Chekube Okeh, the fraud occurred on July 6 , 2018, on 21 Road, Festac Town, Lagos.

The defendant was alleged to have defrauded Ibrahim under the guise of buying five cars for him from the United States of America (USA).

Okeh said the defendant promised to help him buy three Nissan pickup vans, one Pontiac 2007 model and one Honda CRV 2007 model  from the USA.

He said the defendant failed to deliver the cars and that all efforts by the complainant to get back his money failed

Chief Magistrate Akinde granted him bail in sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

The case continues on November 28.
