The Super Eagles camp will come alive today as players and officials are expected to arrive in camp today at the Le Meridien Hotel in Uyo, Akwa Ibom to begin preparation for the Africa Nations Cup qualifiers.
The Eagles will take on Republic of Benin at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Wednesday before flying out to Maseru to face Lesotho on Sunday on Matchday 2 of the 2021 AFCON qualifiers.
Media officer of the team, Toyin Ibitoye, told NationSport Sunday that most of the players as well as officials are expected in camp today to begin preparation.“
Most of the players are expected to arrive in camp today.
“They played for their clubs during the weekend and they are expected to in Nigeria today for the crucial qualifying game. All the players know that we cannot afford to drop points in the games and are ready to give their best,” Ibitoye added.
Coach Gernot Rohr was expected to arrive in Nigeria from Egypt where he had gone to offer some technical support to the Olympic Eagles before their opening 1-0 loss to Cote d’Ivoire on Saturday.
“The coach will receive the players because he is expected to get to camp before everyone after giving the under 23 team some technical support in Egypt for the Olympic qualifiers. By today we will know the number of players in the team and begin intensive preparation for the qualifiers.”
Ibitoye also disclosed that there are no injury concerns for now, expressing hope that all the players would be fit for both ties.
“No player has reported injured and we fervently hope that they will all be fit for the game. We are two games to play in four days so we need all the players to be injury-free and fit,” he said.
The bulk of the 23 players invited for the double header against Benin and Lesotho are expected to start arriving in camp today.
Meanwhile, Samuel Kalu, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Kenneth Omeruo arrived late yesterday night in camp with others expected in today for the games.
