A 50-year-old estate agent, suspected to be fake, Obatele Olayiwola, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding an accommodation seeker, one Mrs Jumoke Okoroji, of N600,000.
Olayiwola who resides at Bariga, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of obtaining under false pretences and stealing before Magistrate, Mrs Bukola Mogaji.
Prosecuting Inspector Donjour Perezi told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in October at Bariga.

Perezi told the court that the defendant obtained N600,000 from Mrs Okoroji with a promise to secure a bedroom apartment for her but failed.
He said the defendant collected the money from the complainant and that for close to two years, he only showed her an apartment under renovation which he assured the complainant could move into after the renovation.
He said when the complainant went back after some days to check if the renovation had been completed, she discovered that the apartment had been rented to another person.
He said the complainant was surprised when she was told that the defendant wasn’t the person in charge of the said property and that all efforts to get back her money had been abortive.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
The case continues on January 20.
