Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation, Nnolim Nnaji, has said the House had not got any official document on Federal Government’s airports concession plan.

He said the House had also not obtained a detailed document on the proposed national carrier, Nigeria Air.

The lawmaker said the House of Representatives will, in January, begin public hearing on the five aviation bills forwarded by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Nnaji said the House will accelerate discussion and consideration on the bills to achieve early passage.

He said the House will work with their colleagues in the Senate to ensure the Bill on airports concession gets smooth passage.

Nnaji, who spoke in Lagos, noted that it would be inappropriate for the House Committee on Aviation to make category statements on supposedly important projects in the Aviation sector for which it had not obtained any formal document from the ministry.

The lawmaker said it was imperative for the proposed second runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to function well.

He said though the Abuja Airport needs a second runway, the funds allocated to it in the 2020 budget may not be sufficient to deliver a state of the art facility.

Nnaji advised the government to reconsider the cost of the runway to enable the contractor deliver a world-class facility.
