African Newspapers of Nigeria PLC, publishers of the Nigerian Tribune, has honoured eminent Nigerians for their contributions to societal development.
The conferment of Tribune’s Platinum Awards took place yesterday at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos.
The awardees have distinguished themselves in different fields.
The Chairman, African Newspapers of Nigeria PLC, Dr. Olatokunbo Awolowo- Dosunmu, said the awardees had made great impact in the development of the country.
She added that the award was initiated to celebrate industrious and excellent performance.
“We have not and will never shy away from speaking truth and in doing so, we commend what is good and condemned what is bad.
“The rationale behind the award is to celebrate those who have done well and distinguished themselves in philanthropy, public service and human development. This award is to charge them to do more.”
Awolowo-Dosunmu assured Nigerians that they would not relent in protecting the interest of common man.
“Some people ask me about the future of this organisation as we celebrate 70th anniversary, but I am taking this opportunity to assure them that we will not only celebrate the next 70 years, but more than that.
“We will strategise to remain relevant as we go digital because we have realised that the future is digital and we are moving in that direction,” she said.
The Managing Director/Editor in Chief, Mr. Edward Dickson, said the occasion was also to celebrate Tribune’s 70th anniversary.
“Today’s occasion is different because people seated here represent Nigeria as it comprises people of different cultures, tribes and religions that make up that entity called Nigeria.
“Tribune Newspaper, which has been in existence before the independence of the entity called Nigeria, was part of products sowed by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and has never for once shied away from its responsibility of uniting Nigeria and promote its development.”
