Residents seek improved security, employment

Residents of Enugu are hoping for better days in 2020. They urged governments to tackle insecurity and unemployment.

Mr. Fides Umike, a lawyer, said for development, the government must address security challenges.

He said insecurity had contributed to the increasing rate of unemployment.

“…rising unemployment can be linked to increased security challenges in the country. Therefore, there is need for governments, citizens to find better ways to end insecurity in 2020.

“Many jobs are wasting, especially in Northeast, where insecurity is high … if not for insecurity in those states, most of our youths would have been engaged.”

Mrs. Rosemary Okafor, a civil servant, noted that the high unemployment was responsible for increasing security challenges.

She said governments should collaborate and fund security agencies with modern equipment and logistics.

“For over a decade, Nigeria has witnessed unprecedented security challenges occasioned by activities of militants in Southsouth, kidnappers in Southeast, and robbery…

“I advise government and every citizen of Nigeria to rise up against evil in 2020 so that our country will be better.”

Miss Ijeoma Iheaka, a student, said: “My expectation from the government in 2020 is for it to find a better way to stop insecurity.

‘’This is necessary for those who are out of school to return because without education, insecurity will increase in the future.”

Mr. Emma Nebo, a businessman, noted that improved security in 2020 will enable more investors have more confidence in staying in the country.

He called on the Federal Government to bring in security experts to advise it on tackling the problem.

However, a security agent said the Federal Government had made effort to reduce insecurity, citing closure of the land borders, and others.

“Our borders are porous, that is one of the reasons for insecurity, but with the closure, I am sure the level of insecurity is going down, and by 2020, it will be reduced drastically.”
