‘Probe scam in pension board’

A group under the auspices of Concerned Citizens of Niger State has petitioned Governor Abubakar Sani Bello over alleged large scale financial scam and sabotage in the state pension board.

The two-page letter, which was addressed to the governor, was jointly signed by the Chairman, Alhaji Awaisu Guwahati Kuta, and Secretary, Adamu Lambata.

The petition, which was made available to The Nation, stated that billions of Naira released to the board for regular payment of retirees’ pension and gratuity were misappropriated.

It did not, however, disclose the amount of money misappropriated.

The petitioners expressed worry over the plight of the pensioners, which they alleged had grown worse, adding that had the board been paying the pension to the retirees regularly, the pensioners’ condition would have improved.

The petition reads: “We have taken this decision to intimate you because we are aware of your concern for the plight of our retirees and the act of sabotage by the implementing agency.

“We wish to advise that you immediately order full investigations into the activities of Niger State Pension Board in the past four years.”
