The Police authorities said on Friday that they had commenced investigation of a video showing a police officer with Point of Sale machine (POS), demanding Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards from Nigerians.
Cards so collected were allegedly used to transfer money to his account.
A concerned Nigerian had taken to Twitter yesterday to draw the attention of the President and the Inspector General of Police to the video.
The complainant said in the tweet: “A police officer seen with POS,asking a passenger to bring his ATM card.”
There was no mention of the location of the video recording or date.
One of the passengers was heard telling the unnamed officer to take handle his ATM with care to avoid damaging it while another refused bluntly to hand over his.

Responding to the allegation on its official Twitter handle,the Police Force said: “The Nigerian Police has commenced investigations to unravel the authenticity of the video, location of incident and identity of persons captured in the viral video where some persons in Police uniform were captured, allegedly with POS machine and demanding ATM card.
“The IGP condemns all acts of corruption by Public Servants, particularly Police officers and is committed to bringing to book any officer found wanting in this regard.
“Members of the public with relevant information that could assist Police investigators are enjoined to kindly DM Nigerian Police or furnish same via any of our confidential channels e.g pressforabuja@police.gov.ng.
