Two held over firearm

The police in Lagos on Monday arraigned two men, Oladapo Ogunbode and Mwanfor Vincent at an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court for alleged unlawful possession of firearm.

Ogunbode, 20 and Vincent, 22, whose addresses were not provided, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and possession of firearm.

They, however, pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting Sergeant Mary Ajiteru told the court that the defendants committed the offence on December 25, 2019 at Kokoro Abu, Ikorodu.

She said that the defendants were arrested with a locally-made pistol and a cutlass.

She said that when they were accosted by the police, they were unable to give a satisfactory explanation on how they obtained the gun and the cutlass.

Ajiteru said the offence contravened sections 411 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Magistrate Mr. O. M. Dawodu admitted the defendants on bail in the sum of N500, 000 each with two sureties each in the like sum and adjourned the case till January 30.
