The Bayelsa State government has frowned at the ongoing attacks targeting officers of the state’s ministry of environment by aggrieved members of the public.
The environment ministry on Friday said it would no longer allow members of the public to physically abuse officers legally performing their duties in the state.
Some members of the public were said to be resisting the renewed vigour and determination to enforce environmental and sanitation laws in the state.
The environmental officers recently raided a popular supermarket in Yenagoa, discovered many expired products and warned members of the public against patronising such business ventures in the state.
A statement signed by Eradiri warned those against the activities of the environmental officers against attacking them in the state.
The statement said: “This is to inform the general public that the Government has observed with displeasure the recent attacks on Environmental Health Officers who are lawfully performing their duties.
“The attacks are unbecoming and should be stopped as two different sets of Health officers were attacked at Imiringi Road area and Okutukutu the same day.
“By this announcement, therefore, the general public is warned not to obstruct, prevent or assault any health officers as well as other officers and staff of the Ministry from carrying out their lawful duties as anybody or groups of persons caught will be decisively dealt with according to law”.
