Alleged human rights abuse: Activist tackles Buhari

Damisi Ojo, Akure

A Pro-democracy activist, Tunde Alade on Saturday expressed displeasure over alleged violation of human rights by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He gave 30-day ultimatum to the National Assembly to commence impeachment process against the President over abuse of human rights and disobedience to court orders

The rights activist also called for immediate removal of Director General of DSS, Bichi over alleged invasion of court during Omoyele Sowore’s re-arrest by the agency.

Among offences he alleged that the President committed include disobedience of Court Orders especially the ripples over the non release of Sowore, following the bail granted to him and his allies Olawale Bakare and Agba Jalingo (a Journalist) who is still in detention in Cross Rivers.

Sowore was detained for 146 days in prison custody, while awaiting trial on a bailable offence.

Besides, there was the case of Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), former NSA to former President Goodluck Jonathan who was granted bail since 2015 on corruption-related charges, but kept in prison for several years.

Alade also recalled the invasion of the premises of Judges of Supreme Court at midnight and that of the premises of The Sun Newspapers in Lagos, stressing that the development further led credence to the poor records of Human Rights and abuses of Rule of Law in Nigeria by President Buhari.

He cited many other gross abuses of Human Rights violations by the Buhari Administration in his first four years term and now in the second term especially the case of the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (the shiites) ElZakzakky and his wife, who had also been granted bail, but ever since since remained in prison custody.

The activist lamented that the Federal Government had since refused to obey Court Orders granting them bail.

He pointed out that there were several Nigerians languishing in prison custody over the years under old laws, like the law on night wandering with a host of Journalists languishing in detentions.

According to him,” Buhari violates constitutional breaches, according to ILO on conversation Extending nephew’s service, and other Constitutional Legal breaches by the Federal Government in the last 4 years.”

Alade emphasised the need for the National Assembly to remove the President from office by invoking Sec.143 (5)of the constitution.

He said” by virtue of sections 142, 143, 144, and 145 of the 1999,the National Assembly is hereby given a one month (30) days ultimatum within which to initiate impeachment Proceedings against President Muhammadu Buhari.

The rights activist vowed to seek legal redress to force the National Assembly to commence impeachment proceedings against the President.
