PRELATE of Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr. Samuel Uche, last week put smiles on the faces of children with special needs at the Heart of Gold Hospice Surulere, Lagos by presenting them with food items, toiletries, giant refrigerator and a cash donation as part of activities to mark his 67th birthday.

Presenting the items to the founder of the Hospice, Mrs. Laja Adedoyin, Uche explained the gesture was in line with a covenant he made with God to always celebrate his birthday with the less privileged in the society.

He noted it was also in obedience to biblical injunction to lift the burden of the poor through provision of relief materials.

This, he said, is the true and real essence of Christianity.

Uche stated: “My birthday is not just about celebration but rather about touching lives, and helping the helpless in the society, especially motherless babies home and other homes catering for children with various disability like the Heart of Gold Hospice.

“Giving to the less privileged is more of a spiritual obligation to me and my family and this is why I will appeal to people of substance in the country not to abandon these kids but to rather visit these homes and assist in whatever capacity they could.

“People in position of authorities, whether in government or in the corporate world, must also contribute their quotas in giving meaningful lives to these hapless children.”

Adedoyin, the founder of the home, thanked the Prelate and the Methodist Church, Nigeria for making the donations to the home.

Adedoyin said the aspirations of Heart of Gold Hospice are simply to continue to deliver quality service to special children who have been abandoned by their various families because of the circumstances of their birth.

“Every child deserves respect, unconditional love and care, whether able or disabled. I believe that every child require a save home where love and attention is given,” she said.

According to her disability is nothing as these children are created by God.

“They are unique and should be treated as such by society at large. So at Heart of Gold Hospice, we provide expert palliative care in a serene, relaxing environment, and for children with terminal or life threatening illness, the hospice offers comfortable, caring and loving environment,” she added.

Wife of the Prelate, Mrs. Ebere Kanu Uche, called on the members of general public, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and other Civil Society Organisations to come to the aid of the children in the Hospice.
