Police in Anambra State on Tuesday encountered a gang of daredevil robbers who engaged them in a shootout, rather than surrender or flee.
One of the suspects was shot dead in the exchange, another wounded, police said.
The incident took place at Awada in the Obosi area of the state.
It was gathered that a six-man gang had in January snatched a Toyota Venza car at gunpoint from a woman at a village in Awka South Local Government Area of the state.
The police said that the suspects who exchanged gunfire with the police in Obosi were part of the group who snatched the car in Awka South.

Parading the suspects, Commissioner of Police John Abang said that they resisted arrest and instead fired at the law enforcement officers.
He said a Berretta pistol with some ammunition and one anti-car tracking device were recovered from them.
Abang gave the name of the woman who was robbed of her car as Nwadike Collette Kosisochukwu, adding that the vehicle valued at N6 million has been recovered.
The CP said, “Following the distress call, police operatives attached to the Command Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) swung into action and trailed the suspects to their hideout along Eze Iweka by High Tension, Awada.”
Five of the six suspects who engaged the police were arrested, it was gathered. One of them died.
The CP said one other suspect was also arrested and paraded with the others.
