The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on Wednesday announced that one of its transformers with 150MVA 330/132/33 kV at Ayede substation, Kogi State, caught fire in the early hours of Wednesday.
General Manager Public Affairs, TCN, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, who broke the news in a press release in Abuja said that the fire has been contained.
The TCN, according to her, is working to isolate the burnt circuits to enable the restoration of bulk supply through the substation.
The statement noted that the incident would temporarily affect power supply in Ibadan and its environs.

She appealed to customers in these areas to bear with them until the normal supply would be restored.
Mbah said: “This incident would temporarily affect power supply in Ibadan and its environs. We, therefore, appeal to customers in the affected areas to bear with us as we would restore normal supply as soon as our engineers complete the restoration of the cables. Normal bulk supply would be restored as the substation has enough redundancy to adequately transmit the Disco lead requirement.”
The statement said that the Head Transmission Service Provider and the General Manager Transmission, TCN, have visited the Ayede Substation to ensure that the situation is properly attended to.
