I’ll execute projects, policies that impact on my people – Wike

Bisi Olaniyi, Port Harcourt

The Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, has assured that his administration will execute projects and policies that positively impact on the lives of Rivers people.

He also expressed gratitude to the people of Degema Local Government Area of Rivers for their support to his administration, especially during the turbulent period of the 2019 elections.

Wike stated this during a thanksgiving service organised by St. Alban’s Anglican Church, Obuama, Degema LGA, on his second tenure election victory and that of his deputy, Dr. Ipalibo Harry-Banigo.

Rivers governor, who was represented by Harry-Banigo, according to the head of her press unit, Owupele Benebo, Monday in an online statement, noted that despite the fact that the 2019 elections were peaceful, some unnamed politicians came with their might to thwart the will of the Rivers people, but the Almighty God had His say at the end.

He said: “They came with soldiers, tried with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the police, they tried to sabotage us within and outside, but the counsel of the Almighty God prevailed.

“At the point when all other states that participated in the governorship election of 2019 had received their results, Rivers State was still hanging. I knew it was not hanging, but resting in the hands of God, who had the final say.

“There is no amount of thanksgiving that will be enough to thank the Almighty God for what He did for Rivers State. It is scriptural to pray and give thanks to God at all times. Two hundred and fifty days into my second tenure, the Almighty God is still faithful.”

Wike also thanked the Bishop of the Niger Delta Diocese of the Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Ralph Ebirien, for personally coming to officiate at the thanksgiving service and for his continuous prayers for the success of his administration.

The cleric, in his sermon drawn from Exodus 15:1-2, described thanksgiving as a mark of humility, appreciation, satisfaction, and acknowledgement of what God gives, which he said should be a part of people’s lifestyle.

Rt. Rev. Ebirien, who noted that God had ordained Wike to lead Rivers people at this point in time, charged them not to be afraid, while insisting that God would see them through.
