Wife of Lagos State Governor Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, former Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr. Idiat Adebule, Elegushi of Ikateland Oba Saheed Elegushi and President of Fatimah Charity Foundation (FCF) Mrs. Bintu-Fatima Tinubu have called for a moral rebirth.
The quartet and others said Nigeria will be great if an end is put to moral decadence in the society.
They spoke at the ninth Prayer for the Nation, organised by FCF at the City Hall, Lagos Island.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu, represented by wife of Deputy Governor Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, hailed Mrs. Tinubu for standing for a worthy cause.
She said: “This year’s focus is apt and timely. It is apt because the task of building a just and egalitarian society is the responsibility of all of us. Also, it is timely coming at the beginning of another year and decade when there is a renewed commitment on the part of all and sundry to do things rightly. We must ensure that we do away with old habits that limit our growth and development as well as learn new ways of doing things to foster growth and development.

“For me, this occasion calls for another opportunity to remind all of us, especially women that the task of nation building starts with you and I; it starts with the people deciding to do the right things all the time.”
Chief Tinubu urged Nigerians irrespective of their religion to commit the country into the hands of God for everlasting peace, progress, prosperity and unity.
She said the yearly prayer for the nation has gained recognition all over the country.
“Since the inception of the foundation, it has impacted lives positively and has actualised its objectives through programmes such as prayer for the nation, charitable work such as empowerment, public lecture and communal prayers.”
Mrs. Tinubu noted that the theme of the event: ‘Changing Nigeria’s Decadence to Decency- A collective responsibility’, was chosen to reflect the present need in the society.
“It is a call to all peace-loving Nigerians to help reshape, re-orientate, sensitise and teach our youths and the society at large to embrace those values that will make them responsible and future leaders,” she said.
The Elegushi of Ikateland, Oba Saheed Elegushi, hailed the foundation for impacting lives positively.
He enjoined participants to make use of the lesson learnt from the lecture and take the message back home to ensure the country returns to the path of decency.
“I have pondered over this since I got the invite for this event and I will like to salute the founder of the foundation for reminding us of decency and also willing to proffer solution that will give us a decent society and country,” the monarch said.
Dr. Adebule congratulated the foundation for its consistency in ensuring the prayer holds every year.
“They have been doing it all over the years and it has always been a huge success. There is nothing in this life one is doing without the support of God and because we have chosen to always come together every year to invoke the blessing of Almighty in the governance of the nation and the affairs of the state, we believe strongly that it is with the support of this prayer that God has been sustaining us in the state. I pray that Allah will accept our prayers and grant us peace not only in Lagos, but also Nigeria as a whole,” she said.
Dr. Adebule said for the country to eradicate moral decadence, the work has to start from home.
“Parents must be alive to their responsibilities; they should not leave everything to the school to handle. There are basic things we must teach our children before they leave our homes. Likewise, the environment also impacts greatly on our society,” she added.
