Odukpani-Itu road in progress

The Southsouth zonal Director of Highways, Federal Ministry of Works, Godwin Eke, has said the contractor working on the Calabar/Odukpani Junction-Itu/Ikot Ekpene road will return to site in March.

The project is handled by Julius Berger Plc. The  Federal Executive Council (FEC) last week approved more funds of over N50 billion for the project.

Eke, who was inspecting  federal roads in Cross River State, assured the people the road would be built to standard.

He was accompanied by the Federal Controller of Works, Basey Nsentip.

He and his team moved to the Alesi/Ugep/Ikot Okpora section to inspect work on the road.

At Akpet community, within stretch of the road, Eke told reporters: ‘This is an indigenous contractor, and I am impressed that an indigenous contractor is performing well. The quality is good.”

He added: “As far as quality and progress of work is concerned, we are okay. The middle section and the other end of Calabar-Itu have been awarded; it was approved by the FEC at its last meeting so the contractor will mobilise on site very soon, meaning that we have awarded from Odukpani junction to Calabar–Itu.”
