National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC) in conjunction with Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development are set to organized a 10 million man March against corruption in the country on Friday.
This was as, African Centre for Media and Information Literacy; (AFRICMIL) said it is planning to develop a National Whistleblowing Coalition as a network of community-based organizations and grassroots CSOs around whistleblowing.
Addressing pressman in Kaduna on Thursday, Acting Coordinator of NYSC in Kaduna State, Mrs. Larai Deborah Ayuba, said the walk which will commence on Friday 14 February 2020 by 8:00 am, is basically aimed at informing Nigerians on the need to shun corruption which has eaten deep into the country’s fabric.
Ayuba maintained the exercise will go a long way in showing the long term relationship that exists between EFCC, NYSC and other agencies.
She explained that the walk will start from Road Safety Office along Ahmadu Bello Way to EFCC office at Wurno Road.
According to her, “The Walk will involve 500 corps members in Kaduna State and basically aimed at informing Nigerians on the need to shun all forms of corruption which has eaten deep into the fabric of Nigeria system.
“National Youth Service Corps in recognition of the fight toward reducing corruption being in the hearts of the sustainable development goals has as one of its Community Development Service (CDS) programme an EFCC group through which corps members sensitize members of the public on the need to do away with all forms of corruption because its disproportionate impact on the poor and most vulnerable individuals in the community.” She said.

In a related development, African Centre for Media and Information Literacy at a workshop for community based organizations on whistleblowing and the fight against corruption in Nigeria, said, establishment of whistleblowing coalition will help the fight against the scourge.
The Centre’s Coordinator, Chido Onumah in his welcome address at the occasion held at Hotel Seventeen, Kaduna said, the Centre’s goal is to cultivation a citizenry that is conscious of its role in tackling the menace of corruption.
According to Onumah, “our goal is to introduce local CSOs and CBOs across the country on how they can use the whistleblowing mechanism in demanding in demanding for accountability and exposing corruption at the grassroots.
“These organizations have a stake, whether it is monitoring constituency projects, reporting on abandoned projects or abuse of office by political actors at the state and local government levels,” he said.
Onumah said the workshop for the CSOs and CBOs in Kaduna is the second round of training in the new round of engagement which seeks to build their capacity on whistleblowing as a tool for strengthening the fight against corruption in Nigeria.
He stated further that, AFRICMIL had earlier launched the Corruption Anonymous (CORA) project to engage the civil society and Nigerians generally in tackling corruption.
The workshop which had about 50 representatives of civil society organizations in attendance, had resource persons from EFCC, ICPC, Federal Ministry of Finance and National Orientation Agency.
